How to prepare a typical Italian lemon-flavored liqueur

Today we are going to prepare LEMONCELLO, a typical Italian liqueur obtained from the maceration of lemon skins in alcohol.

It is traditionally  lemoncello served very cold as a digestif after lunch or dinner.

  • 1. We will begin to peel the skins of 5 lemons, it is very important that the lemons do not undergo any type of chemical treatment as it is possible to choose organic or ecological.
    2. With the help of a potato peeler, peel the lemons, taking care to leave as little white as possible on the skins because too much would spoil the limoncello with an unpleasant bitter taste.
    3. Once the skins have been peeled, we will put them in a glass container and cover with 96º food grade alcohol.
    4. We will cover and store in a dark place and away from heat sources for 15 days.
    5. We will bring the bottled water with the sugar to a boil, mix well until all the sugar dissolves, once dissolved we will let it cool completely before continuing with the recipe.
    6. Strain and remove the skins from the lemons and add the alcohol to the sugar syrup.
    7. We will mix very well and now we can bottle it in a glass bottle and store it in the freezer and after about 3 or 5 days we can enjoy our delicious homemade LIMONCELLO.
